Two years ago I was on the floor. Not metaphor — actually on the floor. The kind of room where the silence presses down on you and the only thing you can hear is your own pulse and your own questions. I wasn't praying because I knew how to pray. I was praying because I had run out of every other word. I didn't believe yet. I was just done pretending I had it under control.
There's a verse in Romans 5:8 that wrecked me when I finally read it. But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Not after we figured it out. Not after we earned it. Not after we proved we were worth saving. While. Right in the middle of the floor. While I was the version of myself I didn't tell anyone about, He wasn't waiting for me to get my act together. He was already in the room. He was already looking. He had already moved.
That's the part of grace that doesn't fit on a poster. It isn't reward. It isn't motivation. It is rescue without conditions. Ephesians 2:8 puts it bluntly — by grace you have been saved, through faith. Not by your effort. Not by your worthiness. As a gift. The whole problem with religion is it tries to make grace something you earn. Grace doesn't work that way. Grace finds you on the floor and says you're not done yet. That's the moment I became something I never thought I'd be — living proof. Not perfect. Not fixed. Just here. Walking. Wearing the testimony.
There's a difference between surviving and being living proof. Surviving is private — it's the late nights and the quiet mornings that nobody else sees. Being living proof is when somebody at a stoplight reads the back of your hoodie and knows that grace is something you can wear because somebody who wore it walked through what they're walking through right now. Two years later I'm still here, and the only thing that makes the testimony worth wearing is that it isn't mine. It belongs to whoever needs it next.
