There's a part of the story you don't tell anyone. The part where you broke. Not the version you put on a caption. The actual version, the one that played out at 2 a.m. in a room you don't post pictures of. The version where you weren't sure you'd see another sunrise the same way again. That part. The part you thought you'd carry to the grave alone. He was already there.
Here's the line that wrecked me when I finally believed it. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18. He doesn't show up after the comeback. He shows up in the part you couldn't say out loud. He's near when the floor was cold. He's near when the silence was the only thing that didn't lie to you. The faith part isn't pretending the dark wasn't real. The faith part is realizing the dark was already counted, and He stayed in it with you.
Stayed is different than watched. Stayed is the one who doesn't leave when you've given everyone else a reason to. Stayed is the voice that whispered keep going when nobody else was in the room. Stayed is the patience of a God who knew the version of you that was coming long before you ever did. He didn't stay because you earned it. He stayed because that's who He is. While we were still on the floor, Christ died for us. That's grace. That's the receipt for the room He never walked out of.
Rebuilt is the part nobody hangs on the wall. Rebuilt is slow. Rebuilt is the construction site that goes on long after the rescue. If you're somewhere in that construction site right now, you're not behind. You're in the part where God hangs His name on the work. Not the version of you that didn't fall. The version of you that came back. There's a difference between being saved and being rebuilt. Saved is a moment. Rebuilt is a life. He's doing both at once.
NVUS Hearts is built for the men and women who came back from where they shouldn't have made it. The God Over Everything graphic carries the thesis on the back, faith over fear, saved by grace. Heavyweight cotton. Founder-printed by hand. Every thread funds addiction recovery work. If you're still here, wear it. If somebody you love almost wasn't, wear it for them. You broke. He stayed. He rebuilt you. The story isn't over.
